Tennis News - State Champion!

Two fellow Greater Miami Conference tennis players met in the State tennis finals.  Sophomore Emily Thomas of Princeton High School won the Division I singles title with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Sycamore senior Alexa Abele. It was the fourth time the pair had played counting the regular season, GMC tournament and district tournament.  The championship in singles is the first in Princeton history.  This year's OHSAA Girls' State Tennis Championship was the 40th.  In 1982 Middletown's Joni Urban became the  first girls state singles champion to represent the GMC. Recently  however the league total has jumped to three titles with GMC  athletes winning the tournament for two consecutive years.  Last year Hamilton senior Cassidy Hicks took the championship winning all four matches in straight sets.  This year sophomore Emily Thomas made it two in a row for the GMC and has a chance to extend this streak to four.   Thomas, like Hicks, made it through the tournament field with straight set victories.
