Lakota West and Mason dominate the 12th annual "Classic In The Country"


The two top ranked teams in Ohio girls basketball, Wadsworth (#1 AP), and Pickerington Central (#2 AP) traveled to Berlin Ohio to play in the 12th Annual Classic in the Country (CIC).  In addition to experiencing the thrill of playing in this premier event, held before a packed house which included approximately 150 college coaches, they also got to experience what a week in the Greater Miami Conference might be like.

On Saturday, Wadsworth sporting a 14-0 record,  encountered Mason and found themselves down 19-6 by the intermission.  The final score showed Comets 41- Wadsworth 30, thus ending the Grizzlies bid for an undefeated season.

On Sunday Pickerington Central, ran into Lakota West at the Classic, found themselves on the wrong end of a 32-19 score at the break.  The Firebirds were never threatened in the second half and cruised to a 58-48.

To complete their CIC weekend's work on Sunday,  the Comets also destroyed the AP#10 team, Rocky River Magnificat by a score of 56-33.  The Firebirds hung around till Monday to inflict a 44-25 defeat upon the AP#15 team Reynoldsburg.

Lakota West and Mason entered the weekend in the #3 and #4 AP slots respectively.

This was the 12th annual Classic in the Country and featured most of the top ranked girls teams in Ohio.  The event, held at the Berlin, Ohio Perry Reese Center, is in tribute to Martin Luther King and is always held on the Martin Luther King Memorial weekend.
