Comets and Firebirds Square Off in Regional Final

The state's Division I girls basketball field has been whittled down from 199 teams to the 'Elite Eight' and two GMC teams, Lakota West and Mason, are still standing. For the third consecutive year there will be a GMC team in the State "Final Four" vying for a third consecutive girls state basketball championship by a league team.

The Firebirds took the court first in the tournament's 'Sweet Sixteen" round and eliminated Springboro, 55-42, never trailing in the game. The Comets, playing in the nightcap game, dispatched the Wayne Warriors, 58-37.  (See Girls Basketball section for full box scores from both games)  Both of these games were played at Kettering Fairmont's Trent Arena.

The tournament will resume at Trent Arena on Saturday, March 5, with the South West Ohio Regional Championship game tipping off at 7:00 PM.
