Lakota East Boys Basketball Bows Out in Sweet Sixteen

The magic of the 2015-16 season came to a close Wednesday night in the regional semi-finals at Xavier. With time running out and the Hawks down by one, a last second shot went in-and-out and Centerville advances to the title game, winning 37-36. It was the Thunderhawks second appearance in the sweet 16 boys tourney and concluded a tremendous season at 18-8 as Sectional and District Champions.

East trailed 14-6 after one quarter, then outpointed the Elks 17-3 in the second stanza to lead 23-17 at the break. The Thunderhawks edge was 32-25 late in the third period when an Elk came up with a steal and a three-point play with 4.5 on the clock.

That made it 32-28 at the third stop and sparked an eight-point run by Centerville and changed the momentum to the Elks. East only scored four points in the last period, but both teams made some mistakes down the stretch. Centerville missed the front end of the bonus twice in the last 56.3 seconds.

East will say goodbye to eight seniors: Emrick, Isom, T.J. Jemison, Nick Plymale, Jon Fox, Jordan Shean, Ryan Middendorf and Erik Sagedal that have given so much to the Thunderhawk boys basketball program.

Thank you players and coaches for a special season of Thunderhawk basketball!
