East Thunderhawks Outlast West Firebirds in Battle of Lakotas for Regional Final Softball Berth

In a classic Lakota softball showdown, the Lakota East Thunderhawks hung on to defeat district rival, the Lakota West Firebirds 6-5 and earn a berth in the OHSAA State Regional Final.  This marks the third time these schools have met on the diamond this year with Lakota East winning all three contests; the last two games being hard fought one run victories.

Interestingly enough, the OHSAA Regional Final will feature an All-GMC confrontation as the Lakota East Thunderhawks meet a very familiar conference foe in the Mason Comets.  These two squads met twice during the regular season, splitting those contests, finishing the GMC slate with identical 17-1 records and sharing the coveted conference title. With the "Hawks" and the "Comets" being virtual mirror images, something has to give!  Regardless, the GMC will be guaranteed to have an outstanding team in the "Final Four"

The OHSAA Regional Final contest will be held on Saturday, May 28th @ 12:00 PM at Centerville High School will settle GMC bragging rights for the 2016 season. While the loser will go home with an outstanding season to their credit, the winner will advance to the OHSAA Final Four.

State semi-finals will be held on Friday, June 3rd - 3:00 PM at the Akron Firestone Stadium.  The state championship game will be played on Saturday, June 4th - 7:00 PM also at the Akron Firestone Stadium.
