GMC Runners Qualify For OHSAA State Championships
With two boys teams and one girls team, the Greater Miami Conference will be well represented in the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships next Saturday in Columbus. Coming out of the OHSAA Regional meet in Troy, the boys' squads from Mason (finishing fourth) and Lakota East (finishing fifth) both punched their ticket to compete for the coveted state cross country title next weekend. On the girls side of the ledger, only the Mason Comet (finishing fourth) squad was able to fight their out of the regional meet and also qualify for an opportunity to compete for the OHSAA state championship.
Individuals in the top twenty finishers not on qualifying teams also qualify for the OHSAA State Championship and will compete as individuals in Columbus. Qualifying GMC boys runners in the top twenty include: Regional Runner-up Conant Smith (Middletown), Kevin Lawson (Sycamore), and Zach Birdsall (Fairfield). The lone GMC girls individual qualifier was Madelynn Frey (Colerain).
