Lakota East's Dustin Horter Finds Gold at OHSAA Cross County State Championship
The GMC took two of the top three places in the Boys D-1 OHSAA State Championship meet at National Trails. Dustin Horter of Lakota Eastfinished 1st in a time of 15:02.8, and Conant Smith of Middletown finished 3rd in a time of 15:13.2. Wedged between these two was Matt Scrape of Pickerington Central, trailing Horter by 5.3 seconds.
The three top finishers and six of the top ten in D-1 are underclassmen (4 Jr. & 2 So.) and are expected to be back next year.
Horter negotiated the course faster than anyone in any of the three divisions that competed Saturday. The three boys divisions combined constituted a field of 560 of the Ohio's top runners.
Horter's winning time ranked as the second best in the six years the meet has been run at National Trails and the fourth best time in the 36 year's since the race length was extended to 5,000 meters. He has the best time ever recorded by an underclassman.
