A Pair of GMC Classic Basketball Showdowns Knot Conference Standings

As GMC boys and girls basketball juggernauts collided this weekend, the conference standings are now knotted in both with just a few league contests remaining.

On the boys basketball front, on Friday evening, the boys varsity Mason Comets traveled to Oak Hills to avenge an earlier season GMC loss and after a hard fought evening, the Mason squad came away with a decisive 76-54 victory. This Mason victory and season split with Oak Hills now finds both teams tied atop the GMC standings with identical 9-1 records with 6 conference games remaining. The GMC defending champion Mason Comets are sporting an overall season record of 13-1, while the Oak Hills Highlanders boast a season record of 13-3. The boys GMC title will undoubtedly come right down to the wire on the last night of the league season on February 17th.

On the girls side of the court, Saturday afternoon found the Mason Comets hosting the revenge minded Lakota West Firebirds. After a closely played and well coached battle of Ohio's finest state ranked programs, the Lakota West squad emerged with a 64-61 victory to climb into a tie with the Comets atop the GMC girls basketball standings with identical 11-1 records. With four conference games remaining, the girls GMC title will be hotly contested all the way to the final game of the league season on Saturday, February 11th. Lakota West, two time defending GMC champion currently stands with an overall record of 16-2 while GMC co-leader Mason sports an overall record of 15-2. These programs play an extremely competitive state-wide schedule, both having just returned from strong showings in the "Classic in the Country" showcase event.

Best of luck to all four of these GMC squads as they streak toward a fast finish and try to "seal the deal" for that coveted Greater Miami Conference basketball title.
