Repeats As 2017 GMC Champions!

The Lakota East Boys Volleyball Team completed a sweep of the GMC on Thursday night (8-0) and claimed another conference title. The dynastic Thunderhawks have produced 3 league championships in the past four years and done so in dominating fashion. Not only have they won 2 consecutive titles this season but the team hasn't lost a league game since way back on April 21, 2015 (19 straight GMC matches). Over the past four seasons East has compiled an overall record of 66-13.

Since volleyball became a conference sport in 2002, East has won 6 outright GMC titles, more than any other school in the league. The Thunderhawks have won championships in 2003, 2006, 2007, 2014, 2016 and now 2017.

Boys' Volleyball defeated Sycamore 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 to claim their title. Senior, outside hitter, Nathan Burbano led the offense with 9 kills, while junior, middle blocker, Jacob Wiberg had 5, and sophomore, outside hitter, Josh Dubovec had 3. The defense was a true team effort, with Jacob Leisten (Jr. DS), Jay Patel (Sr. Libero), Ryan McAlister (Sr. OH), Reese Kuhlman (Soph. MB), and Ethan Hubbard (Soph. OPP) all contributing. Hubbard also threw in 6 aces. Sophomore, setter, Trenton Kuhlman finished the night with 28 assists, 1 kill, and 1 ace. Jake Nordmark (Sr. OPP), Colin Gnam (Jr. OH), Janson Craig (Jr. OH), Colton Marsh (Soph. OH) entered the game to close out the win for the Thunderhawks. 

The whole crew was supported from the bench by injured senior, middle blocker, Evan Kuhlman who was a key component in the Thunderhawks early wins.

The Thunderhawks (16-1) next take on St. Xavier and Fenwick in a tri-match at Fenwick, Wednesday, May 10th, starting at 4:30. They'll close out the regular season on Thursday, May 11th at Northmont and then begin preparation for the post season tourney.
