Mason's Elle Buffenbarger and Lakota East's Rachel Lewis Selected as GMC Co-AOY Sponsored by DICK'S Sporting Goods

Although the overall quality of softball in Greater Cincinnati is quite competitive, the GMC plays a dominant role each spring as teams vie for league titles, city rankings and state poll positions. 2017 was no exception for the softball battleground within the foul-lines of the GMC. In an extremely entertaining and hard fought season, the Mason Comets, led by pitching ace Elle Buffenbarger edged out the Lakota East Thunderhawks, led by hitting sensation Rachel Lewis, 3-2 in extra innings to decide the conference title.

In what seemed like poetic justice, a vote of conference head coaches determined that these two outstanding young ladies were both selected as the GMC softball "Athletes of the Year".

Elle Buffenbarger - Mason

Two-time GMC "AOY", a Youngstown State University commit, led the conference in wins with 23 victories and in strikeouts with a phenomenal 253 K's, all the while maintaining an ERA of 0.65.

Rachel Lewis - Lakota East

A Northwestern University commit, led the conference in RBI's with 56 and home runs with 11 dingers, while maintaining .604 batting average
