Lakota East Girls Golf Earn Program's First State Championship Berth

For the first time in the 20-year history of the Thunderhawk girl’s golf program, they are STATE BOUND! Yesterday at the 2017 OHSAA District Championships, the Lakota East Girls Golf Team finished Runner-up and punched their ticket to the State Tourney. The top three teams made the cut to qualify for the State Championships. It was a difficult day for scoring at Beavercreek Golf Club.  Heavy rains from the previous weekend left the golf course sloppy and playing much longer than usual.  Only 5 out of 72 players posted a score in the 70’s.

The East ladies grinded through the day on Tuesday, finishing with a team score of 345, good for 2nd place behind District Champion’s Centerville and 1 stroke ahead of Cincinnati golf powerhouse, Ursuline Academy.  Junior Bree Wilson’s stellar 79, which put her tied for third overall led the Hawks.  Additionally, Bree birdied her final hole to help the team clinch District Runner-up.  Senior, Liz Springer’s steady play was also critical to the team.  Liz shot an 85, finishing tied for 13th overall. See scores below:

T3 – Junior, Bree Wilson 79

T13 – Senior, Liz Springer 85

T26 – Sophomore, Grace Honigford 90

T29 – Sophomore, Camryn Eddy 91

T37 – Senior, Natalie Hamilton 95

The 2017 edition of Thunderhawk Girls Golf are proud to be the first Lakota East girls’ golf squad to compete at State!  The 2017 OHSAA State Championships are scheduled on the Ohio State University Golf Course, Friday and Saturday, October 20-21.
