Lakota East's Horter Wins CC Nike Midwest Regional - Heads To Oregon

The top cross country runners from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri converged at the Nike Cross Midwest Regional at Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana this past Sunday for a chance to qualify to the Nike Cross National meet on December 2nd.  Only the top 2 teams and the top 5 individuals advance.

Last year, Horter placed 4th overall to move on to the National Championships.  This year, Dustin defeated the defending Midwest champion, Danny Kilrea, to win the overall crown. Dustin was the lone athlete to break 15 minutes on the 5k (3.1 mile) challenging course.  He ran 14:57, Kilrea came in 2ndin 15:00.

Dustin unleashed an amazing kick to win by 3 seconds in just the last 50 meters of the race.  Dustin was the King of Ohio when he won the Division 1 State Championship on November 4th, and he is now the King of the Nike Midwest Region after this most recent victory.

Next, on December 2nd, Dustin will race in Portland, Oregon in an attempt to become Nike Cross National Champion.
