Stage is Set For First Class GMC Girls Basketball Showdown

Arguably Cincinnati's best girls basketball matchup is now set.  In the last game of the regular season, the Mason Comets 14-1 in the GMC will host arch rival the Lakota West Firebirds 15-0 in the GMC for ultimate bragging rights for the 2017-18 season.  Both programs bring a high intensity, wall to wall basketball style, featuring two of Ohio's outstanding players. Sammie Puisis (17.6 ppg), a Florida State commit leads the Comets charge, while Abby Prohaska (15 ppg), a University of Notre Dame signee, will do likewise for the Firebirds.

In the first meeting of the year, the Firebirds bested the Comets 51-50 at Lakota West, handing Mason their only league loss.  Playing demanding out of conference schedules, Mason comes into the contest with an overall record of 18-3 and the Firebirds sport a 20-1 record. With the OHSAA Sectional Tournament on the horizon, the Firebirds earned a #1 seed position while the Comets were seeded #3.

The Mason Comets will be fighting for a home court victory which will earn them a GMC co-championship, while a Firebird victory will assure them of an outright GMC Girls Basketball title.  Regardless, this shapes up to be a "can't miss" exhibition of outstanding basketball.  The Lakota West Firebirds have won or shared the GMC Basketball title for the past three years, with Mason earning a co-championship in 2016-17.

Game time: 2:00 PM at Mason Middle School Arena!
