Mason Comet Baseball Squad Secures GMC Title

The Mason Comets are the 2018 GMC Baseball Champions!  The Comets secured their 4th overall league title on Wednesday, coupled with a loss by 2nd place Lakota East, and a  5-2 home win over Sycamore.   Mason now has a two-game lead over East with only one remaining league game at Sycamore on Friday.

This marks the 2nd time in three seasons Mason has won or shared the GMC league championship.  In 2016 Fairfield and Mason were GMC co-champs.  The Comet baseball program has now won 3 outright conference titles (2012, 2013 and 2018).

In a spring season that at times was more like winter, Mason put together an outstanding campaign with strong pitching and timely hitting.  They lead the league with an overall batting average of 0.340 and a team pitching ERA of 2.54 (all games).  Their defense has been strong also with a fielding percentage of 0.948 (all games) (2nd to Oak Hills).

"Winning the GMC Championship is incredibly difficult given the quality of competition and the grind our league schedule creates," said Mason head coach Curt Bly.  "I couldn't be prouder of our players and coaches for their hard work and dedication put forth to achieve this goal."
