Lakota East Boys Volleyball Wins Third Consecutive GMC Title


Boys’ Volleyball went 3-0 this week, securing their third GMC title in a row, and the fourth in 5 years. The Thunderhawks have not lost a GMC match since April 21, 2015. They went completely undefeated in the GMC this season, not even dropping a set to any of their GMC opponents (8-0/24-0).

On Tuesday, they defeated Fairfield, 25-18, 25-9, 25-15. In the win, middle blockers Jacob Wiberg (Sr.) and Sam Middendorf (Jr.) each had three blocks. Outside hitter, Ethan Hubbard (Jr.), led the team in kills with 8 and split defensive duties with libero, Jacob Leisten, each of them finishing with 5 digs. Setter, Trenton Kuhlman (Jr.), finished with 22 assists.

On Wednesday, they traveled to Xenia, where the Thunderhawks prevailed 25-5, 25-14, 25-17. The Thunderhawks win at Xenia was a true team effort, with 4 players, sharing the title of kill leader. Ethan Hubbard (Jr/OH), Colton Marsh (Jr/MB), Reese Kuhlman (Jr/OH), and Jacob Leisten (Sr/L) all finished with 4 apiece.  Marsh also led the team in blocks, with 5. Reese Kuhlman led the team behind the service line with 5 aces, followed closely by setter, Jack Behan (Jr.), who had 4. Defensively, the Thunderhawks were led by defensive specialist, Harshil Patel (Jr.), who finished with 7 digs.

The boys capped the week off last night with their win against Princeton, 25-10, 25-12, 25-8. Middle blocker, Jacob Wiberg (Sr.), lit it up behind the service line and at the net, leading the team with 4 aces and 5 blocks. Right side hitter, Josh Dubovec (Jr.), led the team in kills with 9. Fellow junior, Ethan Hubbard (OH), led the team defensively, with 8 digs. He was followed closely by senior, libero, Jacob Leisten, who had 7. GMC assist leader, setter, Trenton Kuhlman, finished off the junior dominance, with 22 assists.
