DICK'S Sporting Goods Appreciates GMC AOY and COY From Track and Field

05/13/2018

DICK'S Sporting Goods appreciates the efforts of all Greater Miami Conference athletes and coaches. In keeping with that corporate philosophy, DSG takes time to salute GMC Track and Field standouts both from the track and the coaching sidelines.

In the area of girls track and field, Amaya King of the Mason Comets again earned "Field Athlete of the Year" as a double GMC Champion in both the shot and discus. Interestingly, Amaya King represents a unique "field" athlete that the GMC will be hard pressed to duplicate for years.  Amaya King has won both the shot put and the discus for four consecutive years.  Her "field presence" set a standard of GMC excellence that will be extremely difficult to duplicate for some time. Congratulations on an outstanding career as the most dominant female field athlete the GMC as ever seen.

On the track, Serena Clark captured "Track Athlete of the Year" honors with a double win in both 100 meter and 200 meter dash as well as relay contributions. With speed to burn, this is the second consecutive year that Serena Clark has doubled up and won both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash.

In a vote of his coaching peers, Princeton's Darren Braddix GMC was selected as girls "Coach of the Year".  Coach Braddix girls squad broke a ten year Mason Comet championship run by the slimmest of margins ...1/2 of one point! The turnaround by the Princeton girls program has been nothing short miraculous. After finishing ninth as a team in 2017, the Vikings catapulted all the way to the title in 2018.

In boys track and field, Steven Fauxcheaux of Lakota West was recognized as the male "Field Athlete of the Year" after winning the discus title and securing third place in the shot. Jordan McConnell of Sycamore sped to the "Track Athlete of the Year" by capturing both the 110 hurdles as well as 300 hurdles, as well as contributions on relay events.

For the third consecutive year, Hank Ray of Sycamore was selected by fellow coaches as the GMC "Coach of the Year'. Each year Coach Ray's boys squads have carried the fight to the Mason Comets, giving them a true "run for their money"  This year's GMC boys championship actually came down to the points scored in the final event as Mason held off the challenging Aviators.
