GMC Swimmers Shine At State Championships


Greater Miami Conference swimming programs stood out at the OHSAA State Championships in Canton this past weekend.  The Mason girls followed up a strong showing and state title in 2018 with yet another state championship in 2019. The depth of Mason girls program was evident in this second consecutive championship. The Comets edged out North Canton Hoover 204 to 201 to claim this state title.  The GMC boys programs also acquitted themselves extremely well with Sycamore placing second, Mason 4th and Lakota East 14th.  GMC swimmers earned a total of nine state championships, setting a number of state records in the process.

2019 State Champions were:

200 Yard medley relay: Sycamore 1:28.48 (Carson Foster, Jake Foster, Ansel Froass, and Elliott Carl. (State Record)

200 Yard Freestyle: (Sycamore) Carson Foster 1:32.99 (State Record)

200 Yard IM: (Sycamore) Jake Foster 1:43.99

50 Yard Freestyle: (Mason) Adam Chaney

100 Yard Freestyle: (Mason) Adam Chaney 43.67  (State Record)

500 Yard Freestyle: (Lakota East) Jacob McDonald  4:22.17

100 Yard Backstroke: (Sycamore) Carson Foster  46.62

100 Yard Breaststroke: (Sycamore) Jake Foster 51.76

Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay: (Sycamore) 2:59.97  Ansel Froass, Noah Patterson, Jake Foster, Carson Foster
