Lakota East Girls Capture "Clash of the Titans" Interleague Track Meet

Article Compliments of East Sports Information Director, Dan Hilen: The Lakota East Varsity Women’s Track Team brought home another win from Sycamore on Friday night! Of 15 teams scoring, the Hawks were Meet Champions, scoring a whopping 170 points compared to second place Mason’s 129 and third best Lakota West’s 80. This team can run, jump and throw at amazing levels! Again, many events showcased multiple placers, including several event sweeps.

Starting with the field events, East had placer in almost every event. In the long jump, we had a Champion in Azariyah Bryant with a huge 18 ft jump, and Camiyah James cleared 16-06.5 for a runner up performance! Christina Blount was sixth in the high jump with a 5-foot clearance, Gracie Clute was seventh in the discus with 87-06.5. Lindsey Kluesener was on top of the world in the pole vault, soaring to a height of 11
feet and winning the event!

In the Sprints, we had multiple Champions. KK Heath was back in full force with a vengeance, as she raced to gold in both the 100m (12.60) and the 200m (25.80). She was in good company as East swept both races, with Dawn Hilton placing second in the 200 (26.43), and third in the 100 in 13.08, Azariyah Bryant sped to second in the 100m dash in 12.76, and Camiyah Jones nabbed third in the 200 in 26.72. These performances are very impressive
considering all of these ladies are all multi-event placers and 15 teams were competing at a high level.

East also showed out in the 400m dash, with yet another Champion in Danni Stoughton winning in 58.0, Heather Strauss gutting it out in third (1:01.80), and Joi Terry placing fifth in 1:02.30 for the Hawks. Anna Kluesener won the 300m hurdles and was second in the 100m hurdles in 49.15 and 16.86 respectively, not an easy task! Nia Butts nabbed fourth in the 100m hurdles in 17.18and placed sixth in the 300m hurdles with a 52.20.

The East Relay teams stormed the track, sweeping ALL relay events except the 4x800, which they did not enter! They were Champions in every relay, which is just unprecedented. The 4x100m time was 48.32 and included Dawn Hilton, KK Heath, Azariyah Bryant, and Camiyah James. The 4x200m relay won in 1:43.35 and included Dawn Hilton, Danni Stoughton, Azariyah Bryant, and Camiyah James. The 4x400 relay won in 4:04.92 and featured Heather Strauss, Leighton Heiner, Joi Terry, and Danni Stoughton.

The East distance squad performed just as admirably! Danielle Horter had a PR of 5:18.66 in the1600m run, earning a third-place finish, and also raced to fourth in the 800m run in 2:33.99.

Cali Reynolds placed eighth in the 1600m with a 5:29.23. In the 3200m Kelsi Harris brought home a win in 11:06.71 and Carly Spletzer was second in 11:13.98.

All in all, it was an incredible night for the Lakota East Women’s Varsity Track Team, as they won the meet by a considerable margin
over Mason and West and brought home a huge trophy!
