Fairfield Hires DJ Wyrick as New Varsity Boys Basketball Coach


Fairfield City Schools Press Release on DJ Wyrick, compliments of Gina Gentry-Fletcher:

Fairfield is excited to announce the hiring of DJ Wyrick as our new varsity boys basketball
coach. Mr. Wyrick comes to Fairfield after four years as head coach at Vandalia-Butler High School where the Aviators just completed a 21-3 season that saw them capture their second consecutive GWOC North Championship andfinish the season as the #7 ranked team in the AP Division I State Poll. Mr. Wyrick took over a program that had finished 2-21 before his arrival and improved their record each year, going 57-37 overall. Coach Wyrick was the 2018
Southwest District Coach of the Year, 2018 and 2019 District 9 Coach of the Year, and 2018 and 2019 GWOC North Coach of the Year. Prior to coaching at Butler, Wyrick was a part of the Wright State University basketball coaching
staff under Brad Brownell, now the head coach at Clemson University, and Billy Donlon, now the head coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City

“We are thrilled to have DJ lead the Fairfield boys basketball program," said Mark Harden, Fairfield athletic director.  "DJ has obviously had some great success at Butler rebuilding that proud program, and everyone we talked to about him just raved about what he had done there and the type of coach and person he is. That came through when we met with him as well. We feel fortunate to have him leading the program here at Fairfield.”
