The Lakota East boys soccer team beat the #1 seed Beavercreek Beavers in the District finals Saturday evening by a score of 2-0. The Thunderhawks snared the programs 6th overall District Championship and advanced themselves to the Sweet 16, Regional Semi-final. The win exacted a little "revenge" as the last time Hawks and Beavers met up was 5 years ago in the Regional Title game.

In the 8th minute of the match junior, JP Plennert, found space behind the Beaver’s backline and slotted a pass to senior, Eyad Qaqish, who fired a shot near post past the goalkeeper making the score 1-0. The Hawks would battle for the next 70 minutes of the match, keeping Beavercreek off the scoreboard. Junior goalkeeper, Nic Lemen, came up big in the last minutes of the match, making diving saves to keep the Hawks in front.

With 30 seconds remaining in the match sophomore, Casey Welage, received a pass in the middle of the field from senior, Adam Karman, and turned to find Beavercreek’s keeper out of position. Welage blasted a shot from 50 yards out, past the outstretched keeper and securing the Hawks victory 2-0.

Lemen had 4 saves in the match and helped his team earn their 9th shutout of the season.

The win makes it the 10th in a row for the Hawks who advance to the Regional-semi final round against the Elder Panthers Wednesday night at Monroe High School, kick-off 7:00 pm. East's record moves to 14-3-3 on the season. Elder (12-5-2) knocked out Centerville 3-1 to earn their trip to meet East.
