Mason Runs Away with Girls Golf GMC Title

At the Walden Ponds Golf Course, the Mason Comets girls golf team lead wire-to-wire to run away with the 2020 Greater Miami Conference title. The Mason squad posted a team total of 579 strokes over the two-day 36 hole championship to best the second place Sycamore Aviators (661) by 82 strokes.  Mason unseated the 2019 GMC champion Lakota East Thunderhawks (664) to reclaim their title.

Taking the GMC Girls "Golfer of the Year" honors was Mason's Catherine Zhang with a 36 hole total of 142 strokes, narrowly edged fellow teammate Jenna Harter who logged an outstanding 143.  In a vote of his conference coaching peers, Mason Head Coach Chad Payton was selected as the GMC "Coach of the Year".

This years Mason team broke the all-time scoring record which had been set a decade ago by the 2010 Comets.   This years winning score of 579 (just 3 over par) lowered the previous team record mark by 13 strokes.

They also matched the 2010 Mason team by placing all five individual players on the GMC all conference 1st or 2nd team. The five players on this years team were all among the leagues top 8 finishers. (1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th)  (Contributed by Bob Ashby, Lakota West SID, Emeritus)
