DICK'S Sporting Goods Recognizes GMC Girls Cross Country Achievers

DICK'S Sporting Goods appreciates outstanding efforts by both athletes and their coaches.  They have taken this opportunity to express support for the Greater Miami Conference Girls Cross Country "Athlete of the Year" and "Coach of the Year".

The GMC Girls Cross Country "Athlete of the Year" is Lakota East's Carly Spletzer.  Carly won this year's varsity championship 5K race with an impressive time of 18:12.8, which was 26.9 seconds over an outstanding effort by second place finisher Alyssa Hammond from Oak Hills.  Carly Spletzer's winning time was 13.6 seconds faster than her third place time in 2019. Carly is a two-time first team All-GMC performer.

Leading the Oak Hills Highlander Girls Cross Country team to their best conference finish in 12 years, Shellie Hageman was selected in a vote of her peers as the GMC  "Coach of the Year". Under her guidance and support the Highlanders placed 5 runners in the top 18 placers with Ayssa Hammond and Eva Hensley placing second and third respectively.  With a relatively young squad, the Highlander distance running future is bright. Thank you for your dedication and extra efforts on behalf of your athletes.
