DICK'S Sporting Goods Salutes Boys GMC Cross Country Standouts

DICK'S Sporting Goods steps up to reinforce outstanding athletic achievement, both on the field of competition and from the coaching sidelines.

Keeping with this tradition of appreciating excellence, DSG congratulates Lakota West's Zach Beneteau as the GMC Cross Country "Athlete of the Year". With his first place finish in this years' GMC boys varsity race not only did Zach earn his first "AOY" title but he also secured his third consecutive 1st Team All-GMC berth. His winning time of 15:33.7 placed him narrowly ahead of  second place teammate Cole Cronk by 7.2 seconds, who also had been named first team All-GMC for four consecutive years.  Zach Beneteau was the 2019 runner-up with a time of 15:41.8 and worked hard to drop 8.1 seconds off that time to claim GMC honors this year.  In a credit to his GMC consistency, Zach Beneteau has been a top ten GMC Championship performer for three consecutive years (1st, 2nd and 10th).

Sean Hart's Firebird Harriers, placed five runners in the top 9 finishers to carry the day for Lakota West.  This consistency led to a scoring total of 26 team points to outdistance runner-up Mason (43 points). With their last conference title coming in 2009, this was the first GMC Boys Cross Country Championship for Lakota West in 12 years .  Recognizing the tremendous progress of the West program, Sean Hart was selected in a vote of his peers as the GMC "Coach of the Year" in boys cross country. Coach Hart, your extra efforts and dedication to the Firebird program are genuinely appreciated.
