Lakota West Captures the OHSAA State Cross Country Championship

Finishing off a truly magical season, the Lakota West Firebirds outdistanced the St. Xavier Bombers by a scant two points to bring home the coveted OHSAA Boys Cross Country State title. On their way to the State Championship, the Firebirds earned a GMC title, District title, and a Regional runner-up title. When the dust settled on the course, the Firebirds had outlasted the St. Xavier squad by a score of 73-75 to gain some sweet "regional revenge". The highest finishing GMC individual runner honors went to James Schmidt from Oak Hills.  This Highlander came across the finish line with a time of 15:42.6 for a solid 7th place finish, closely followed by Lakota West's Zach Beneteau in 8th place (15:42.8).

In the girls Division I State Championship event, the Mason Comets ran a very strong race to finish in 4th place as a team, followed by Lakota East also running very well to post a 9th place team finish.  The highest finishing GMC girls runner was GMC "Runner of the Year" Carly Spletzer of Lakota with a time of 18:27.6 for a 9th place individual finish.

GMC proud of the conference cross country programs, who again proved that the Greater Miami Conference is indeed one of Ohio's strongest distance running leagues (amongst many other things!).
