Mason - Senior
Coming into the 2016 season, senior midfielder Shawn Mather had dreams of shooting and scoring points as his role on the team, however, early in the season he was asked to become a defensive specialist and be a leader in an area of the game where most players, especially seniors, don’t want to be. Instead of resisting the role Shawn has embraced the role and excelled at it. If a ball is on the ground and needs recovered, Shawn is the player who will get to it and possess it, he is second on the team in ground ball recovery and has become one of the top defensive midfielders in the league. Because of his dedication to the team and selfless play, Shawn Mather is the Mason Boys Lacrosse Player of the week.
Mason - Junior
Day after day throughout the season, Junior Emmaline Russell has been improving every aspect of her game, working outside of practices to become the best player she can be. A starting defender in all but one game (injury held her out), Emmaline has become an impact player on the field. Her ability to recover the 50/50 ground ball paired with an innate field presence enables her time after time to transition the ball into our offensive end, She is unstoppable. Maybe not the biggest player on the field, but when it comes to the heart of a champion; Emmaline has grit, determination and a fierceness to play at a giant level. She must love what she does, because there is rarely a moment when she isn't smiling. She is a team player, self motivated with a positive attitude and a tenacious spirit to succeed.
